NEW TITLE NEWS ~ THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES

THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES

Once again Rosemary Pardoe will edit and introduce what (she says) might be her final Ghosts & Scholars anthology (the seventh!). A good place to finish with the volume Ro has always wanted to do.

Thirteen devilishly eerie tales where the authors have taken English landscapes and the strange figures, images and patterns often depicted and carved thereon as inspiration for truly uncanny and weird histories… Six of the stories have been selected from (mainly) small press publications and seven are brand new and were written expressly for this volume (including one by the editor herself ~ the first Jane Bradshawe story in almost forty years).

The reprints:  “The Madness of a Chalk Giant” by Colin Insole. “Figures on a Hillside” by Steve Duffy. “The Pharisees’ Glass” by R.B. Russell. “Chalk” by Katherine Haynes. “The Regulars” by David Longhorn. “All I Ever See” by Mike Chinn.

The ‘new’ stories:  “The White Round” by John Howard. “Lob Top” by Christopher Harman. “And Then There’s Place-Name Studies” by John Whitbourn. “The Scouring” by Carole Tyrrell. “Dyrehill Park” by C.E. Ward. “The Lickey Beast” by David A. Sutton and “The Lady and the Unicorn” by Mary Ann Allen (aka Rosemary Pardoe).

Paul Lowe has (once again) provided a quite exceptional and brilliant dust jacket painting and a pretty scary black & white frontispiece.

THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES is a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.

Bound in Green Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine, Quality Enso Creamy Text Paper, Marble Design Endpapers, Section (Thread) Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker.

Approx 200pp including prelims/introduction etc.

Full Colour Dust-Jacket & Black and White Frontispiece Art by Paul Lowe.

Publication currently scheduled for mid December 2024.

NEW TITLE NEWS: THESE AND OTHER MYSTERIES by STEVE DUFFY

“THESE AND OTHER MYSTERIES” by STEVE DUFFY

Steve Duffy is the author of the collections The Night Comes On, The Five Quarters (with Ian Rodwell), Tragic Life Stories (all Ash-Tree Press), The Moment of Panic (PS Publishing) and, more recently, from Sarob Press, Finding Yourself in the Dark and The Faces at Your Shoulder.

He is an International Horror Guild award winner for ‘Best Short Story’ (“The Rag-and-Bone Man”) and a Shirley Jackson award winner for ‘Best Novelette’ (“Even Clean Hands Can Do Damage”).

Sarob Press is delighted to present a new and truly exciting collection of eight stories from the pen of one of the very best and original story writers working in the genre today. Three of the stories have appeared previously and five are all new and were written expressly for this volume.

Black magic in the suburbs of Manchester. The no-man’s land of the heart. Late night ghosts on TV. Following the footsteps to Carcosa. Seaside memories that turn to horror. Summoning elementals in a Scottish castle. Answered prayers and a weird messenger. Journeys end and lost loves...

The protagonists in these eight stories encounter the strangeness and the terror which lies beneath the surface of our British cities, in the trenches of WWI, on a cold grey Lincolnshire beach, in dark and terrible recollections and on a summer lakeside holiday in the Alpes-de-Haute-Provence.

The stories: “Dead Centre of Manchester*” “The Harvester of Ladslove” “Screen Burn” “Stations*” “Last Rites at Saltstrand*” “The Strathantine Imps” “Three Deals with the Supreme Being*” & “The Lake of the Lost*” with a foreword and notes on the stories by the author. *Previously unpublished.

THESE AND OTHER MYSTERIES is a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover. Bound in Light Blue Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine, Quality Enso Creamy Text Paper, Marble Design Endpapers, Section (Thread) Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker.

Approx 192pp including prelims/foreword etc.

Dust-Jacket & Black and White Frontispiece Art by Paul Lowe.

Publication currently scheduled for late August 2024.

NEW TITLE NEWS: SPIRITS OF THE DEAD BY RON WEIGHELL

SPIRITS OF THE DEAD by RON WEIGHELL

Here are eleven superlative stories, three of which are previously unpublished ... tales featuring dark and demonic occult encounters, pagan terrors and Jamesian chills.
SPIRITS OF THE DEAD is possibly the last collection from the pen of the late and much missed Ron Weighell to feature some of the author’s unpublished stories. “Older than Christmas” is a feast of pagan goings-on and, this story, as well as “The Tale Once Told” seem to have a distinct hint of the Jamesian. Ron had been working on and off on “On Murder Considered as One of the Black Arts” for many years and it is, maybe, one of his darker and most terrifyingly disturbing stories (no spoilers here but don’t read just before bed).
Seven of the eight previously published stories collected appeared in anthologies from Egaeus Press, Swan River Press, Undertow Publications, Zagava Press and Sarob Press. “The Mark of Andreas Germer” appeared as Quire xiii, a handmade chapbook from The Last Press.
So, kick off your shoes, settle down before (preferably) a roaring log fire, with a warming tipple to hand … and gently immerse yourself in this wonderfully dark and shadowy tome.

The stories: “The Malleus Bone”  “Older than Christmas*”  “The Palace of Force and Fire”  “Spirits of the Dead”  “The Invisible Worm”  “The Mark of Andreas Germer”  “The Tale Once Told*”  “Under the Frenzy of the Fourteenth Moon”  “Drebbel, Zander and Zervan”  “The Chapel of Infernal Devotion” and “On Murder Considered as One of the Black Arts*”.  With an extensive introduction by Mark Valentine.
*Previously unpublished and original to this collection.

SPIRITS OF THE DEAD is a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.
Bound in Black Cialux Italian cloth, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine in Gold, Quality Enso Creamy Text Paper, Marble Design Endpapers, Section (Thread) Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Gold Ribbon Bookmarker.
Approx 192pp including prelims/introduction etc.
Dust-Jacket & Interior Art by Nick Maloret.
Publication currently scheduled for April 2024.

HAUNTINGS HAS ARRIVED

HAUNTINGS (Tales of Supernatural Dread) by Peter Bell arrived just before Christmas and all individual pre-ordered copies have now finally shipped. Book-dealer orders will ship early next week.

Apologies for the sight delay but Sara and I both contracted a nasty bout of COVID shortly after the books touched down and it is only in the last week, feeling suitably recovered, that I’ve felt able to get back around to checking, numbering, packing and posting ordered copies.

Hopefully copies will start arriving in a couple to three weeks or so.

Happy New Year everyone.

Cheers, Robert.
