NEW TITLE NEWS: ANCIENT TRACKS

ANCIENT TRACKS:  JOSH REYNOLDS

Sarob Press is pleased to announce the forthcoming publication of ANCIENT TRACKS.

Josh Reynolds has been writing professionally since 2007 and has short stories, audio dramas and novels in his back catalogue. In other writers’ universes, he has written for Arkham Horror, Legend of the Five Rings, Warhammer 40,000 and more.

Ancient Tracks contains nine stories all featuring intrepid folklorist and adventurer Artemis Whitlock as she delves into strange folk customs and weird and supernatural goings-on in 1920s England.

These are stories firmly in the M.R. Jamesian tradition with a great sense of place and time (so Jamesian that Rosemary Pardoe, renowned M.R. James expert and head-honcho at Ghosts & Scholars, almost insisted on providing a rather original introduction… alongside Josh… a sort of question and answer that tells us a lot about Josh and his inspirations).

Artemis Whitlock is a super creation and a fabulously original character and, alongside five previously published tales (at least three of which will be ‘new’ to most), are four all new Whitlock adventures.

If you’re looking for really well-written Jamesian folk horror tales then Ancient Tracks will most definitely be for you. A roaring log fire, slippers, and something rather special to hand in a large glass are, of course, entirely optional.

Stories: “Windlestraw*”, “Beating the Bounds” “He in the Tree”, “An Indefinite Kingdom”, “A Crooked Path”, “Waters Painted Red*”, “St Ulfhaugh”, “Via Maris*” & “Brinley Wood*” (*previously unpublished)

ANCIENT TRACKS will be a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.

Bound in Sand colour Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine in Black, Quality Enzo Creamy Text Paper, Marble/Print Design Endpapers, Section (Thread)-Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker. Approx 128pp including prelims etc.

Full Colour Dust-Jacket Art and black & white frontispiece by the ever brilliant Paul Lowe.

Publication currently scheduled (loosely as always) for mid-late June 2026.

VOTIVE OFFERINGS ~ A TALE OF HERE AND GONE

VOTIVE OFFERINGS arrived a few weeks or so ago.

I’m really pleased with how this one has turned out. And even more pleased and proud of the stories that Mark (Valentine), John (Howard), Peter (Bell) & Colin (Insole) have written for me.

And the dust jacket art by Paul Lowe is just amazing!

As usual, the couriers took a whole week (and a day) beyond the promised delivery date to eventually get the books to me… that’s what living “in the middle of nowhere” gets you I guess!

It’s been a really big task checking, numbering and packing the ordered copies!

Anyway, after multiple post office visits, all ordered copies have, at last, been posted.

And Sara will be relieved to not have stacks of packed books ‘cluttering’ (her word) up our salon.

VOTIVE OFFERINGS is now SOLD OUT.

Cheers, Robert.

NEW TITLE NEWS: VOTIVE OFFERINGS

VOTIVE OFFERINGS

Sarob Press is truly delighted to announce the forthcoming publication of VOTIVE OFFERINGS.

Four ‘all new’ long stories (or novelettes) imbued with the mystery and otherworldliness of place and of landscape – strange, secret, mystical and ancient.

In “Roman Masks” by Mark Valentine art college teachers and their students in north west England invoke, through strange ritual, ancient gods and terrible dark forces at a coastal temple ruin.

John Howard’s weirdly enigmatic “Desire Path” takes the unwary reader along pathways long forgotten and thought lost ~ but what if you could walk along ways that no longer exist?

“Figures in a Landscape” by Peter Bell finds its heroine seeking a lost (or possibly mythic) Welsh hill figure and discovering the seemingly harmless to be anything but.

Colin Insole’s “The April Rainers” is a tale of the re-emergence of something old, powerful and malevolent, and the story of the centuries-old fellowship pledged to protect the land and keep it safe from the terror.

VOTIVE OFFERINGS will be a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.

Bound in Camel colour Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine in Silver, Quality Enzo Creamy Text Paper, Marble/Print Design Endpapers, Section (Thread)-Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker. Approx 128pp including prelims etc.

Edited by Robert Morgan. Full Colour Dust-Jacket Art by the ever brilliant Paul Lowe.

Publication currently scheduled (loosely as always) for mid-late January 2026.

UPDATE

I’m sorry that I’ve not updated here for a good while but this summer has been a season of total chaos for us.

We were hit by two massive storms in late June, the first with almost tennis-ball sized hail that caused enormous damage to our property and to our two cars (one of which had to be written off).

The second storm took down five of our trees and so for a couple of weeks my chainsaw was red hot as we worked hard to clear the land.

So, rather than finishing off the next Sarob Press volume, and as well as clearing the trees, we’ve been absolutely inundated with masses of insurance paperwork (the French do love paper), and dealing with roofers and builders, and garages etc.

In between we did manage to fit in a pleasant and much needed weeks’ holiday in the sunny Dordogne.

But, just to put everyone at ease… I’m now very close to finishing the next Sarob Press book and hope, all being well, to fully announce VOTIVE OFFERINGS around the middle of next month.

The book is likely to arrive from my printers sometime in mid December (much depends on my printers’ workload)… but I’d probably expect to be shipping no sooner than early-on in January.

Watch this space as they say for a new title announcement in a few weeks or so.

Any changes to this plan (because you never know) I’ll post here.

Cheers, Robert.

GHOSTLY QUARTERS ~ SOLD OUT

GHOSTLY QUARTERS by C.E. WARD finally arrived from my book printer, somewhat later than hoped for, and after a quite long and unexpected delay with the courier.

All ordered copies have now been posted and should be arriving in the next week or two/three all being well ~ sometimes, however, the post can, unfortunately, be more than a little uneven.

GHOSTLY QUARTERS by C.E. WARD is already SOLD OUT.

Many thanks, everyone, for your continued support.

Cheers, Robert.

NEW TITLE NEWS: GHOSTLY QUARTERS

GHOSTLY QUARTERS ~ C.E. WARD

Sarob Press is spookily delighted to present a new volume of ghost stories by C.E. Ward. Stories of dark deeds, supernatural evils, weird black magic and of terrible and dread-filled ghostly vengeance. C.E. Ward is, possibly, one of the most Jamesian of authors writing today (he is a life-long admirer of M.R. James and of all things darkly supernatural and ghostly), and his stories are replete with well researched historical detail and a brooding, chilling and (dare I say again) ghostly atmosphere… so here are four wholly original and all new lengthy tales (the four ‘quarters’) to best enjoy, perhaps, late at night (preferably, if one’s eyes allow, by candlelight, before a roaring log fire and with a glass of something rather particular to hand). Mr Ward is the author of the Sarob Press volumes, Vengeful Ghosts, Seven Ghosts and One Other, Malevolent Visitants, Legionnaire and An Unheavenly Host.

Stories:  “Promenade Walk (19,259 words)” “Some Episodes of a Family History (16,761 words)” “Where His Feet Pass (17,725 words)” & “Warlock’s End (19,225 words)”

[All four stories are previously unpublished and were written expressly for this volume]

GHOSTLY QUARTERS is a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.  Bound in Silver Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine, Quality Enso Creamy Text Paper, Marble Design Endpapers, Section (Thread) Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker.

Approx 176pp including prelims etc.

Full Colour Dust-Jacket and black & white Frontispiece Art by Paul Lowe.

NEW TITLE NEWS ~ THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES

THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES

Once again Rosemary Pardoe will edit and introduce what (she says) might be her final Ghosts & Scholars anthology (the seventh!). A good place to finish with the volume Ro has always wanted to do.

Thirteen devilishly eerie tales where the authors have taken English landscapes and the strange figures, images and patterns often depicted and carved thereon as inspiration for truly uncanny and weird histories… Six of the stories have been selected from (mainly) small press publications and seven are brand new and were written expressly for this volume (including one by the editor herself ~ the first Jane Bradshawe story in almost forty years).

The reprints:  “The Madness of a Chalk Giant” by Colin Insole. “Figures on a Hillside” by Steve Duffy. “The Pharisees’ Glass” by R.B. Russell. “Chalk” by Katherine Haynes. “The Regulars” by David Longhorn. “All I Ever See” by Mike Chinn.

The ‘new’ stories:  “The White Round” by John Howard. “Lob Top” by Christopher Harman. “And Then There’s Place-Name Studies” by John Whitbourn. “The Scouring” by Carole Tyrrell. “Dyrehill Park” by C.E. Ward. “The Lickey Beast” by David A. Sutton and “The Lady and the Unicorn” by Mary Ann Allen (aka Rosemary Pardoe).

Paul Lowe has (once again) provided a quite exceptional and brilliant dust jacket painting and a pretty scary black & white frontispiece.

THE GHOSTS & SCHOLARS BOOK OF LANDSCAPE FIGURES is a Hand Numbered Limited Edition Jacketed Hardcover.

Bound in Green Cialux Italian cloth/linnen, Foil Blocked to Front & Spine, Quality Enso Creamy Text Paper, Marble Design Endpapers, Section (Thread) Sewn binding, Head/Tailbands and Ribbon Bookmarker.
