The Ghosts &
Scholars Book of Shadows is now SOLD OUT.
Thanks everyone for
making this our most popular title to date.
The book has been so
well received that editor Rosemary Pardoe and I have decided to
produce a follow-up volume in 2014 (as long as we can achieve the
same standard of stories).
Rosemary has just
announced a call for submissions in the recently published issue
(number 23) of The Ghosts & Scholars M.R. James Newsletter (a
great journal that I can't recommend highly enough for fans of James
and ghostly fiction in general).
The deadline for
submissions is to be 31 January 2014.
The Ghosts &
Scholars Book of Shadows
contents were inspired by eleven of M.R. James' ghost stories and Rosemary
and I are looking for prequels/sequels to the remaining twenty two.
These
are:
“Lost
Hearts” “The Ash Tree” “Number 13” “Count Magnus” “The
Rose Garden” “The Tractate Middoth” “The Stalls of Barchester
Cathedral” “Martin's Close” “Mr Humphreys and His
Inheritance” “The Residence at Whitminster” “The Diary of Mr
Poynter” “An Episode of Cathedral History” “The Story of a
Disappearance and an Appearance” “The Haunted Doll's House”
“The Uncommon Prayer-Book” “A Neighbour's Landmark” “A View
from a Hill” “A Warning to the Curious” “An Evening's
Entertainment” “There was a Man Dwelt by a Churchyard” “Rats”
and “After Dark in the Playing Fields”
Any
submission which is just a revamp or parody of the plot of the
original story is unlikely to be selected. We are looking for
something more original than that and there is no rule that the story
must be in the James tradition itself. Rosemary will not look kindly
on stories which have been simultaneously submitted elsewhere ~ word
count up to the authors (within reason).
Submissions
preferred by email attachment in Word or RichText format to Rosemary
at pardos@globalnet.co.uk
Good Luck.
Cheers, Robert.
